If you have ever lived in a rental property you certainly would have had the experience of checking the mail and receiving a constant stream of mail for countless unknown names. From important government documents, to bills, to spam mail, it’s an all too common situation for past tenants to forget, or simply not know how to update their address with the government and other institutions after a move.
If you lose items in the mail, not only can you miss important information and notifications, but in today’s world you also face the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. With just a little bit of effort you can quickly update your address with many different institutions from the comfort of your computer. If you’re planning to move in Brisbane, review our thorough list of organisations where you may need to update your address after moving. For many of these organisations we have provided links to make the process of updating your address as easy as possible. For many others you can do so via your online account.
Federal Government Services
Many important federal government services need to send us mail from time to time. Thankfully many of these services now allow us to update our address online.
In 2018 the Queensland government made a great advancement by launching a one stop online service to update personal details for all QLD government services. With this service you can update the following services with your new address for a range of services including but not limited to:
Industry and high risk licenses
Environment Land and Water (rates etc)
Homes and Housing
Transport and motoring (license, registration)
State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER)
For other QLD government services including the following, you must update the service directly with your new address:
Business details registered with the OSR must be updated directly with the OSR itself.
For residents of Brisbane, your details may be registered with the city council for a number of important services. Thankfully the Brisbane City Council offers the ability to update your address with a variety of services online, by phone or in person for certain services.
Aside from federal, state and local government services, some of us have dozens or more of other services where we need to update our addresses. Read on and don’t forget to update any of these services you may use with your new address.
