Why move to New Farm?
Unlike many recently gentrified suburns of Brisbane, New Farm is a suburb that has evolved over time. It is not uncommon to find a fibro shack, next to a luxury apartment complex in New Farm. A short trip from New Farm gets you into the CBD or Fortitude Valley. The Riverwalk in New Farm affords you great views of the river, city and spectacular cliff top houses and apartments. The Powerhouse in New Farm is a 5 star venue for arts, performances and conferences, and New Farm Park is home to thousands of rose bushes, Morton Bay figs, jacarandas, a section of rainforest, and perfectly manicured lawns.
New Farm is home to some of Brisbane’s most expensive apartments and houses, but it is not uncommon for younger professionals and students to call us to help them move into smaller and more affordable rental properties.
In its main dining strips, New Farm shares a similar vibe to trendy suburbs like Paddington or West End. It is perhaps slightly more ‘elite’ than both these suburbs but due to the mix of old and new properties does not feel ‘pretentious’ or ‘over-gentrified’. If the idea of a city lifestyle, with a great community and natural beauty appeals to you, New Farm could be a great choice. If you’re from Sydney you might find it is comparable to Potts Point or Double Bay (but with a river instead of a harbour).
New Farm in general does not offer any great challenges for removals.
One thing to consider is the narrow streets, low trees and lack of parking in many areas. If you’re moving into a house or townhouse in New Farm it can be a good idea to speak to the neighbours and request they leave some space, or otherwise use you car, wheelie bins or traffic cones to block off a suitable space for your removalist’s truck to park.
In newer apartments it is generally a requirement to advise management of your move and book exclusive use of a lift. In older apartments this may not be necessary, but some buildings put restrictions on the time and days in which furniture removals can be carried out.
If you’re planning an commercial move in Newstead (e.g. relocating a restaurant), tight access means it can be a good idea to do several loads in a smaller truck to ensure efficient process.
